College Admissions Guide/Scholarship Information

2009 – 2010 SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Scholarships listed are for members of the Class of 2010 unless otherwise noted.
   
   
Seniors: The Greater Evansville Runners and Walker’s Club is offering (2) $500 scholarships (1 male and 1 female) this spring. To be eligible, you must: participate in cross country or track during the 2009-2010 school year, be accepted at a college for next year, fill out the application, and write a short essay on your plans for education and your life’s work and how participating in running or walking has impacted your life. For more information, check out the website at www.gerwc.com or contact Bill Hussmann at 867-6974. Deadline: May 30. 

Seniors: The deadline for the Epsilon Theta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa has been extended to June 1. This is a $700 scholarship payable directly to your school. Applications are available in the counseling office. You can also see Mrs. Nimnicht with questions.
 
The State Student Assistance commission of Indiana offers two scholarships: 
1)       The Minority Teacher and Special Ed Services Scholarship.  In this case, “minority” refers to Black and Hispanic students seeking a degree in teaching. A scholarship for any student seeking a degree in Special Education is also available. The program will award several scholarships up to $1,000 per year and renewable for 4 years. Each college that participates in this scholarship sets the deadline. Contact the Financial Aid Office of the College that you are interested in.
2)       The Robert C. Byrd Scholarship Program will award up to $1,500 annually and can be renewed for up to four years. Applicants must be an Indiana resident and have a minimum SAT score of 1940 or a 29 ACT composite. Students must apply on-line at www.ssaci.in.gov and click on Scholarship Programs. Application deadline is April 26th  
3)       The Nursing Scholarship Fund is an incentive program to encourage individuals to pursue a career in nursing in Indiana. A student must be an Indiana resident, demonstrate financial need, have at least a 3.0/6.0. The scholarship can only be used towards tuition and fees. Each participating College  sets the deadline.
 
Juniors: Applications can now be submitted for the Wendy’s High School Heisman award program. Eligible students have at least a B grade average and participate in at least 1 school-sponsored sport during the 2010-2011 school year. You enter by registering at www.wendysheisman.com. You can apply between now and October 3rd.

All Grades: The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is offering the Voice of Democracy Audio Essay contest. The theme for 2010-2011 is “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?” Prizes are awarded at the local, district, and state level. State winners receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. March 5-9, 2011. The top scholarship winner receives $30,000. The audio should be 3-5 minutes in length recorded on a standard cassette tape or CD. Completed entries should be sent to the local Post. To find your local Post, call 816-968-1117 or email kharmer@vfw.org or visit www.vfw.orgDEADLINE: Nov. 1, 2010.
